Hi

By way of introduction I should explain that I am a composer, mainly for television but also for film and other media.  I recently bought a Big Briar Etherwave Standard and have already used it for a few things.  I like the tone and generally feel pleased with the instrument, although the non-linear nature of the pitch control makes it difficult to play melodies which have large steps without sliding too much into the notes.  I am aware, however, that this is largely a failing of my own technique and that I need more practice.

It takes lots of time and patience to play the theremin... But it is doable. :)
if you urgently need a theremin line for one of your composition, there are many that can help you ~

Thank you, that is good to know.  

Eventually, I would like to get a more linear instrument but I'm pretty sure that would be beyond my budget.

Also, I wonder if anyone could explain what are the modifications that are available to the etherwave standard and what they are for?

Think of it as a guitar neck a little...

The most useful mod in my opinion is the ESPE-01 module. It will make your bass notes sound more like a tone and less like a motorcycle.  Before you mod your theremin though, I recommend playing it for a little while to get to know it better. Then you can decide if modding is something you feel is required.

Thanks for that.  I think I will get used to it first as you say.  Actually I am very pleased with the Big Briar.  I think I just need to work on my technique a bit more.  I can get notes fine if I slide into them but need to be able to accurately make melodic jumps...  oh well, practice
