Ignore this thread, or read at your own risk. It's just a lot of nonsense on my part, and a complete waste of time for which I apologize.
Attention, GordonC, If you're reading this, please forward this to the Levnet group, as I'm still unable to post evin with a new e-mail adress.
I've been reading the latest postings about me on Levnet. I am most appreciative of any, and all comments, suggestion, advice, and most importantly, critique.
I used to sing in a barbershop churus as part of a nation wide society for preservation, and encouragement of barber shop quarted singing in America (inc), and each chaptor would have specialists in given areas of the craft come in and have our quartets, or chorus perform, and be critiqued by them. You don't see this in opera, rock, or hardly any other form of music. The theremin comminity is the only other group of musicians doing this in the form of forums, and the Levnet news group, that I know of. Mainly because there are so few instructors redilly available. I have to take what I can get.
I'm not able to post on Levnet due to technical problems, and evin if I could, I'd still want to see each, and every comment, both good, and bad about my technique. I'm still learning.
As does everyone, I enjoy getting compliments, but that's not why I post videos on youtube. It's done in the hopes that more experienced thereminists such as yourselves would indeed take the opportunity to point out flaws, and offer suggestions for improvement. This serves to aid others in improving their skills at the same time.
I do however, as was speculated by Peter Pringle, post with the intention of sharing my art with the world. But, in this case, I'm open to critisism. I waited 9 months before deciding to start posting so the world would not be exposed to what would have sounded like a catfight in a sewer pipe, and give the instrument a bad reputation. So many people post to just show off a new toy, and don't give any thaught to what they are doing.
I see youtube as an opportunity to not only share my talents with the world, but to take advantage of whatever distance learning I can possibly gain from the comments generated by the postings.
Fire away! I need all the help I can get, and I'm not afraid of a good dressing down before the ranks, especially if it serves to enhance my skills, and those of other young thereminists.
I do welcome, and follow advice where feasable, and appicable. I've allready started separating my monitor amp from the nice reverb which y'all get to hear in the finnished product so I can hear myself better. As soon as is feasable, future videos will be made using backtracks wheather they are heared only be me, or allowed to be included in the videos to improve intonation. I've also taken note of the "pumping" problem pointed out by Peter Pringle, and I thank him emmensely for doing so. Hopefully, I'll also have a good video editing program to make my videos more enjoyable. I need to put those videography skills I paid dearly for to better use, but you work with what you have, and can afford to work with.
I don't regard critique as "picky", or "mean spirited" I regard it as an indication of my performance skills, and I thrive on it.
This is showbiz, and anyone who gets their feelings hurt by a little critique don't belong in showbiz. "Learn from what's offered, move on, or go home." was what a director once told me.
I chose to learn from whatever crituqe came my way. Especially when it's free.
Keep it up folks, and be nice to each other on Levnet.
Many thanks,
Thomas Grillo
