Theremax, Fatman, effects together? Use the CV outs?

Has anyone ever built a Theremax (or other theremin) that included processors, effects, etc. built into the case? Or has anyone built a Theremax and Fatman combo together? I'd also like to hear from anyone who has used the CV outputs on the Theremax for any purpose. I haven't been able to find much online about its use for anything other than straight theremin audio stuff.

One issue to consider here is whether you would get tired of the effects or if they woul dbecome outdated.

I have a friend who has to buy a new guitar effects processor every other year or so because the new ones have more presets or better amp simulation or whatever.

He is single-handedly trying to keep Musician's friend in the black.

I, on the other hand, would still be using my Zoom 9002 from the early 90's if it had not given up the ghost. I also have a Morley wah from the 70's that I really like.

If there are some effects that you truly love and are sure you would want to keep using for years to come then it might make sense.

If you did this I would set it up in a way that you could switch out the effects componenents at some point in the future.

The CV outs on the Theremax were my initial attraction to the Theremin. When I built my Theremax in September of 2005 I assumed that I would never be able to play the Theremin but gestural control would be a nice way to add some nuanced expression to my analog synthesizer.

However, things changed when I started to play the Theremin and I have tended to use the Theremin in a stand-alone manner.

There are probably many people who utilize the CV outs -- however, depending on the processing involved, the result may not be identifiable as a Theremin.

When thinking about "who uses CV outs" a few people come to mind --

Barbara Buchholz and Lydia Kavina did a program entitled "Touch, Don't Touch" wherein they use Theremins to trigger samples.

Wilco Botermans processes his theremin through effects and some of the sounds that he creates could be done with CV outs (though, I am not sure exactly how he does it.)

Check out Anthony Ptak, too. He does some excellent electronic music that is gestural-controlled.

At times I wish I had some switches and/or pots that were panel mounted that could be used to control peripherals. Wouldn't necessarily need the effects in the theremin's cabinet. Would be nice to have controls within easy reach.

Thanks for the replies. Since I may rack mount modular synth and effects units, I don't neccessarily need stuff mounted in with the Theremax. I just wondered if anyone had. I was mainly thinking that some filter units could be mounted to change the sine wave into something a bit more natural sounding. Not that I dislike the basic sine sound of a theremin, but it might be interesting to add high-pass, low-pass, band or notch filters, etc.

One thing I was curious about is how something added into the cabinet with the theremin would affect it other than initial tuning. Some of the cases I'm looking at are old radios with built in speakers. I could make a phono audio-out jack that could turn off the internal radio speaker. How would the speaker with it's big electromagnet affect the theremin circuit (other than initial tuning)? Could it cause problems? The same question in relation to effects or filter units....

I don't think they would have an affect other than tuning.

Once you compensate for that my guess is that you won't even know they are there.
