Nice looking instrument. Love the door-stop. Also really neat that you can pack the antennas away inside it.

I think a mike stand or tripod would detract from the look of it. How about a wooden pedestal (http://www.heavenlywood.com/images/342-pedestal.jpg) stained to match instead?

Way COOL axe!! I love the built in antenna storage. That old instrument box gives it an old timey theremin look. I think it would be cool to have a built in amp, even if it is small and not very loud. :)

Yes I'm thinking of stripping down one of these:

and installing it in the lid - maybe with a voltage reg so I can run it and the theremin off the same 12v power supply.

As for the plinth.. yes a modern tripod would maybe spoil the look a tiny but but the plinth would defeat the whole 'portability' angle.
How about an old wooden tripod like you'd get under an early plate camera? Something like this?

One thought though - how far do the legs stick out and how close do you stand?

Well when I use my tripod (which looks really crummy compared to that one) I stand a lot closer to my camera than I do to the theremin. I think it'd be ok?

Anyone currently using a tripod on the theremin have any thought?

i'm currently building a paia analogue modular and thinking about cabinets - you've given me a lot of food for thought.

i also have one of those funny little dan electro amps. it's got a cool overdrive and my theremin sounds fairly good through it. it's plastic casing rattles somewhat though, but as you're thinking of mounting it with the theremin i don't see a problem.

finally, a little off topic, i enjoyed your robots page. somewhere back in the uk, i've got some mechanical insects - a half finished project. nothing as wonderful as yours, but the fruits of a certain fascination. here's an image:

It's cool to see someone doing a similar idea but with a slightly different aesthetic. You've got a sort of 'Write Brothers' look going there.

I did a rough sound recording of my tmax. Got a quick question. Right at the start of this I ramp up and down the octaves with the timbre control turned all the way down, no prob. I then turn the timbre up and do the same. This time there's quite a lot of squiggly noise in the background. The unit is grounded.
