Proximity to Electronics

I'm new to theremins and I'm not sure exactly how they work, but is it alright to play the theremin near computers, cameras, and similar electronics? Will the waves that control the theremin interfere with any of these devices?

No. But the waves from other devices (particularly other theremins) can interfere with your theremin. I recently discovered that my Moog Ethervox theremin does not function correctly if a SERIES 91 theremin is placed too close to it - and the SERIES 91 doesn't even have to be turned on! The proximity of the second instrument is enough to throw the whole thing off.

Cameras, computers, tvs and cellphones operate at much higher frequencies than theremins. And the regulating agencies pound on their manufacturers pretty hard to make their products as immune from outside RF interference as possible.

OK...we've covered the electronics, but it's well known that the metals and other materials in these devices will have some effect on a theremin, especially the pitch field.

So will any other living organism...your pet rat, cat, dog, or your beloved spouse and children. Believe it or not, it also includes that butterfly palm waving in the breeze from your ceiling fan.

It's best to keep all other objects at least four feet from your theremin. More space is even better.
