I've been wanting to buy/try/play a theremin for a few years now. And now that I have some money, I'm really thinking of buying one. So my question is, before I make this thousand dollar investment (400 for theremin, 100 for amp, mic stand, etc) I was wondering if there was a place to try it out? I know the bay area has the exploratorium for example... anything around the san diego anyone knows of?
Places to try out a theremin? (san diego area)

Apparently Guitar Center sells Moog theremins:

The closest one to San Diego that I know of is in San Marcos:
Guitar Center San Marcos
712 Center Dr.
San Marcos, California 92069
Phone: 760-735-8050
Fax: 760-735-8530
Give them a call to see if they have any you can try.

"Apparently Guitar Center sells Moog theremins"
I was in Guitar Center last month looking for something that was listed on their website. They said that the website was separate, and often had items that they didn't stock...you may need to call around to a few places.
Good luck!

Definitely call first! Stock varies from store to store. Some things that are out on display in the Lake Forrest store are non-stock items in San Marcos.
