Has anyone identified this person?

I'm in the amateur category. I guess this is okay, although I'd like to be known as a professional.

While the word "amateur" actually means "one who works without pay," the word connotates that one does a particular thing as a pastime.

I don't think of studying the theremin at an educational institution as a pastime.

Sigh. Tear. Frustrating.

Hammy,

Since you are presumably available for paid theremin work, then you could, imho, list yourself as a professional.

I feel good that I am introducing the word "repeatcore" into the Thereminist lexicon.

I can certainly think of a talented thereminist with a base in Texas who is involved in artistic development and promotion as described on Theremin Connection's profile, but without further poking around I really can't be sure. Besides, I figure if she wants to remain anonymous that's her prerogative. One thing is certain - this is not an exercise in self-promotion.

Oddly I feel a little uncomfortable in the professional list - I do think of my playing as a pastime - albeit one I take seriously, despite various bits of evidence to the contrary - that you can find me on iTunes does indicate that, theoretically, I am a paid musician. Personally I like the amateur tag - it affords one the creative freedom to please oneself rather than an audience or a bank manager. Also many of my favourite bands - in particular The Fall - prefer to think of themselves as amateur, presumably for a similar reason.

But as I said, the evidence suggests I am in the right list. So while I am sure the keeper of the list would be happy to make corrections, in this instance I won't be asking for a change.

Hammy,
i've sent a message on your behalf. somehow i fell in to the spot of "helper" on this project. kinda like Egor.
i think of amature / pro as "would i be willing to do it in front of people?".
(are we still talking about theremins?)

would i make wooo-wooo noises in front of my wife? yep, she leaves the room.
would i feel comfortable with a video of me on youtube? not yet...

gordon
she expects to be found out, but wanted to have a fairly well built list before that happened.
(that's why i removed her name from my first post)

and no it's not for selfpromotion (as far as i can tell)
i've comunicated with her a number of times and "feel" that she is honist

Wow, thanks, guys!
It's probably not a huge deal, but I really appreciated the support.
I've always been an advocate of the "present yourself as who you hope to be" rule.
