A new version with a new design, including the CV control and headphone jack of the EW Plus, and several new conveniences: a mute button (also with a foot switch jack), quick-release antennas and detachable mic stand attachment. A standard power connector (not that weird DIN thing) and HOORAY!, what appears to be an easy access to calibrate the instrument, instead of having to disassemble it almost entirely.
They also mention "improved bass response"...could it be they finally incorporated the ESPE01 mods?

1000 euros...while not a totally outrageous price, surely a marked increase from the EW Plus.
Still it looks like a very sensible upgrade, addressing many of the known shortcomings of the venerable EW, while keeping alive a traditional, fully analog theremin in the Moog lineup.

That's an interesting question: those barrel connectors normally have two contacts, so they shouldn't be able to provide ground...but then again, at least here in the EU even the original Etherwave was never grounded, with that silly 2-prong-only power plug!
We'll probably still have to rely on the mixer or amplifier to provide ground, I'm afraid...

Relying on the mixer or the amp for grounding makes basically much sense. This prevents ground loops with all the noise and hum which double or multiple grounding might induce. And it prevents the serious thereminist from using cheap, crappy and ungrounded audio equipment… 😜

Agreeing with Theirry on the grounding issue, unless it also has some 'ground lift' option, grounding through the PSU is asking for problems and personally I was happy that the Etherwave theremins for the European market came with a PSU that didn't connect to the socket's safety ground.

There doesn't seem to be any online manual and schematics yet for the new Etherwave and I hope someone does a teardown video giving a look inside soon. Wondering if the 'push-in' connection for the antennas is like the Theremini's or somthing a little better. It'll also be interesting to know what kind of buffering / decoupling of the oscillators Moog deployed.

Would it be an instrument to recommend to someone wanting to start playing theremin? For people on a budget it gets a bit steeper on the price, also if people are not sure yet it may be better to point them towards the Burns and Lostvolts theremins.

Regarding grounding - I did have an email conversation re grounding on the Claravox - I can easily solve earth loop problems by manually lifting it above earth with the use of an adapter plug. Moog Tech weren't very keen on the idea tho as it poses risks of damage should anything unusual happen with the power supply
