RCA Theremin in NYC

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get an RCA Theremin in/near Manhattan, NYC. I've always wondered if there was a theremin like the one on the log in screen for sale. I tried out an Etherwave at Rogue music, and it wasn't working propperly, according to the salesmen there. I'm waiting to look at one that works propperly, but I'm also looking at others, and it seems that all of the theremins that I find aren't produced anymore.

The Etherwave Pro caught my eye also. It isn't being produced as far as I'm concerned, but if anyone has either one of them for sale, please contact me.

RCA theremin? Do you know how much those go for? 20,000? It is a huge commitment even without knowing if you like it...

The spirits are telling me to change my title to Antique Theremin Shaman.

Am I wrong by saying that a working RCA can fetch as high as this?

There is a strong possibility that the theremin was working correctly and the salesman does not have a clue. zyx you have probably seen some of the wonderful musicians here play fantastic music and your inexperience currently makes it impossible for you to grasp the difficultly and how it is done.

If I was to recommend an available theremin from years of observation it would be the B3 Deluxe or B3 Pro at this time. You need a first step and this is a good one. The EtherWave Standard would be the next choice as it would be easy to resell once you learn the aspects that make theremins respond. Also you might want to watch Thomas Grillo teaching on YouTube or purchase his course on DVD at Amazon. He is one of the active & gifted instructors today.

Things will change over time; theremins are funny instruments, if they cost $5000 or $20,000 does not necessarily mean it will be playable or even sound any good.

Antique theremins, even modern ones with vacuum tubes, create sort of an excitement like gold fever which is a quality only found in people’s imagination.

You probably find theres about 5 wannabe Shamans for every genuine antique theremin.. and lets say one comes to market every year or so.. Even if one made $5k for every transaction, if you are real lucky you could make perhaps $10k in your whole career - real lucky!

more money to be made by selling spirits than by listening to them, me thinks.. lets go down pub..

Im sure it CAN fetch as high as this, and think anything from about $10k to $20k is probably about "right"... Last one I saw advertised was about $9800 somewhere, but I think, if I remember correctly, that this was a hoax.

This one is $199.95, and most theremins are a lot more expensive, so I did some research, and found a few negatives about it:

The problems with the Burns B3 Deluxe is that it looses quality as you get lower in pitch, the antennas are flimsy and cheesy looking. But I like the sound, personally a little better than the Moog etherwave. It seems the pitch is more consistant. ~All Souls Night

I also took a look at the subscope theremin, but I couldn't find out that much about it, so I'm going to get in touch with Amethyste.
