About OpenTheminV3 as a Serial MIDI Controller

Can the MCP4921 and MCP4922 analog-to-digital conversion chips be removed if OpenTheminV3 is only used as a serial midi controller?

They're DACs, and they appear to be integral to calibrating the pitch and volume fields via the varactor diodes D1 & D2.

No they can't, as dewster remarked MCP4922 is for pitch and volume adjust and the Atmega328 will not work if MCP4921 is missing because of the I2C protocoll. The ICs must respond.....
