Hi,
As I'm looking for a good vintage amp for my theremins (I have an etherwave Moog and a wavefront classic), I would like to buy a RCA radiola 106 speaker. Is it a good idea? How is it connected to the theremin? Thank you for your lights!

Ok, I think that the 106 is just a speaker because "The 1929 RCA theremin had a built-in amp". So is it a good idea to plug the 106 and the theremin to an amp? If yes, which one is closer to the built-in RCA's?

I have no idea, but, yes, it's a good idea to plug it to an amp.
To have the kind of sound you're looking for, use the more neutral amp. You can use the speaker after your amp, it could look and sound good.
Sorry if I couldn't really helped you.

Tell me if I am wrong, but I got the idea that that RCA 106 was an electrodynamic speaker. In other words it does not have a permanent magnet.

They used the electromagnet winding as a choke in the power supply circuit in some of those old designs.

If you are willing to build a power supply for it to power the electromagnet you could use it, but I think you will get equal or better results with something like the Jensen MOD series speakers.

In either case, you will need a power amp to drive the speaker.

Thank you. And I've been told that to use the 106, I will need at least an isolation transformer, because it's an active speaker which operates on 120VAC...I think I'm going to google the Jensens ;-) The other idea was to use a regular clear combo, and to use a tube (vacum?) pre-amp...I read here that some people use the "TL Audio Ivory 5051 mono-tube voice processor" to create a voice effect...It's not that easy to choose where to plug your jack lol!

It seems most people like keyboard amps, with Peavey being the preferred brand.

I agree that running the theremin through a tube preamp would be the preferred choice for a variety of reasons.

I have plans to build a small designed-for-the-theremin amp, but I have to finish my theremin first!
