How rare are Vanguard theremins and what do they sound like compared to the standard Etherwave? You see, I'm after a classic project theremin but dont have millions to spend on an RCA. Would I be wasting my time in looking for one?

You know, in all my years of theremining, I've only heard of 1 person who owned a Vanguard (that I can recall). I don't know how many were originally sold, but it was definitely not a large number. You can hear one on early albums from Jon Spencer and the Blues Explosion (before someone stole their Vanguard).
